CGC Discipleship Plan: Growing in Faith and Relationship with Christ

Introduction: Welcome to Community Gospel’s discipleship program designed to help you come to faith in Christ, mature in a relationship with loving Jesus, and live out Biblical principles solidifying the hope we have of the coming soon eternity with Christ. Remember, discipleship is not a one-time event but an ongoing process of sanctification.

Phase 1: Foundations (Establishing “habits”)

 

Goal: Come to faith in Christ and build a solid understanding of the core beliefs and principles of what it means to follow Jesus.

  • Accept the Gospel: Repent of sin and put faith in Christ (John 3:16).
  • Bible Reading: Start a 365-day Bible reading plan (Psalm 1:1-2 - we recommend the NLT translation).
  • Basic Principles Study: Weekly reading a chapter a week (see resources below).
  • Prayer Journal: P.R.A.Y. (1 Thessalonians 5:17).
  • Corporate Worship: Attend Corporate Worship at Community Gospel (Hebrews 10:24-25).
  • NOTE: Bible Reading, Basic Principles, and Prayer journal are “daily devotions” done in the morning 5/7 days a week (Saturday and Sunday “off”).

Phase 2: Spiritual Growth (Building off “habits”)

 

Goal: Mature in a relationship with God but understanding what it looks like to love Jesus.

  • Continue Corporate Worship: Continue Corporate Worship at Community Gospel.
  • Doctrines Study: Offering at Community Gospel/Online (one doctrine a week).
  • Baptism: Schedule baptism at Community Gospel (Matthew 28:19-20).
  • Evangelism and Outreach: Generate “list” of people in home/workplace that are saved/unsaved. These people go into daily prayer journal/excel sheet and prayed over/for in daily devotions. Share Gospel as opportunities arise.
  • Find Primary Place of Service: Engage in acts of service at Community Gospel (1 Peter 4:9-10). 

Phase 3: Discipleship and Discipling Others (Solidifying “habits”)

 

Goal: Go from a disciple to a one effectively discipling others.

  • Continue Daily Devotions, Corporate Worship, and evangelism and edification.
  • Group Bible Study: Done with 3-4 other men/women (various options).
  • Church Membership: Complete paperwork and become member of Community Gospel.
  • Find Secondary Place of Service: Engage in second acts of service at Community Gospel.
  • Discipleship: Start Phase 1 with person who came to know the Lord (or already does and has not completed this journey).

Phase 4: Increasing Commitment (Taking faith, love, and hope to end of the earth)

 

Goal: Foster a lifelong commitment to following Christ and making a lasting impact.

  • Continue Daily Devotions, Corporate Worship, and evangelism and edification.
  • Advanced Study: Leading a groups like BSF and/or Small Group (2 Timothy 2:15).
  • Advanced Mentoring: Continue mentoring new believers, walking them through Phase 1.
  • Advanced Mission and Outreach: Schedule short/long term missions trip.

Conclusion: This discipleship plan is not a rigid framework but a flexible guide to support growth in faith and relationship with Christ. We adapt this plan to one’s pace and life circumstances, seeking the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the support of our local church.
